Doctor of Dental Medicine
This four-year dental course is designed to prepare the students for the regulated practice of dentistry which requires the passing of a licensure examination. This course is designed to provide a well-rounded educational background and training in the various fields of dentistry for the improved health and welfare of the people. This course shall help in developing the competence in oral health treatment by giving them a sound foundation in the basic health sciences and the different fields in dentistry; and developing skills in the application of technical principles to different dental procedures.
The curriculum seeks to:
- Stress the fundamental principles in the practice of dentistry as applied in the proper dental services in the clinical and/or hospital setup and the exposure of the students to community dentistry for the awareness of the dental needs of the population
- Familiarize the students with the different dental clinical practices, the different dental equipments, materials and the advances of dental technology
- Equip the students with the knowledge, comprehension and clinical skills necessary to meet the professional demands of a general dentist as they participate as vital members of a health care team
- Invite the students to explore and question the role of today's dental practitioner, which urges them to understand their role as dentists and as productive individuals of society.
Length and Nature of the Program
The 2-yeaar Association in Health Science Education (AHSE) and the 4-year Dentistry Proper will lead to a degree in Doctor of Dental Medicine. Clinical requirements and hospital duties are required for course completion.
