CTHM bags championship at National Congress on Environmental Sustainability quiz bee

National University’s College of Tourism and Hospitality Management students win big at the recently concluded National Congress on Environmental Sustainability -Domestikwhiz quiz bee held last February 15, 2020 at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City. The Domestikwhiz is an annual inter-university competition organized by the NCES which aims to foster environmental awareness among the youth, promote domestic tourism and create camaraderie among college students who will be part of the tourism industry in the future.

Representing National University were sophomore Tourism Management students Carl Aaron Pongyan, Trisha Joy Guillemer and Erika Venus, coached by professors Mark Chris Lapuz and Gloria Wong. The NU team took home the championship title and bested representatives from 19 colleges and universities around the Philippines in the two-stage tourism and environmental sustainability quiz bee. The quiz bee covered topics from tourism current events, environmental sustainability, domestic tourism, nature-based tourism and heritage tourism.

According to the team head coach Prof. Lapuz, this is the first time the CTHM joined the NCES and this accomplishment only proves that the university is upholding academic excellence. “[We put] primary value on our teaching methodologies. [The win] also shows the quality of education we have here is comparable to colleges and universities who have been competing in this competition ever since.”

Last October 2019, CTHM has established a Tourism Management Academic Pool which holds the review programs and trainings of the Tourism Management students that may represent the college and the university for off-campus competitions and activities like quiz bee, tour guiding, tour packaging, research, photography and ushering.
