NU Dasmariñas Study on AI Use in Academic Writing Earns Scopus-Indexed Publication

NU Dasmariñas marks another significant achievement in research excellence as a new study earns recognition as a Scopus-indexed publication, reinforcing the university’s commitment to impactful and forward-thinking academic work.

The study, titled “Plagiarism or Productivity? Students’ Moral Disengagement and Behavioral Intentions to Use ChatGPT in Academic Writing,” was authored by BS Information Technology faculty members Renen Paul M. Viado and Rudante M. Galapon.

The research investigates how moral disengagement influences Filipino college students’ intentions to use artificial intelligence tools in academic writing. Findings reveal that factors such as attribution of blame, peer influence, and perceived behavioral control significantly shape students’ attitudes—identified as the strongest predictor of their intention to use AI tools like ChatGPT.

This publication highlights the importance of understanding the ethical and behavioral dimensions of emerging technologies in education. It also emphasizes the need to promote responsible, informed, and critical use of AI in academic environments.

This milestone reflects NU Dasmariñas’ continued dedication to producing relevant and timely research that contributes to the evolving discourse on technology, ethics, and education on a global scale.
