NU Fairview celebrates the 125th Founding Anniversary of National University

NU Fairview marked National University’s 125th Founding Anniversary with a simple yet meaningful celebration. The day began with a Thanksgiving Mass, followed by the blessing of new laboratories for the BA Communication and School of Architecture programs. We also welcomed the opening of Mariano’s Café and held a wreath-laying ceremony to honor Don Mariano F. Jhocson Sr.—the man whose vision laid the foundation of NU.
A special highlight was the unveiling of Don Mariano F. Jhocson’s bust, led by his great-grandchildren, Ms. Ann Giannina Ong and Ms. Pauline Paguia Asensi Paggao. The event was also graced by the current National University High School Alumni Association President, Ms. Violeta Dela Fuente Lapid, owner of R. Lapid’s Chicharon, along with selected NU Fairview alumni.
As we mark 125 years, we look back with gratitude—for the stories, the sacrifices, and the spirit that shaped our University. More than just a number, 125 represents every student who dared to dream, every teacher who gave their best, and every milestone we’ve reached together.
With the theme “Founded for the Filipinos, Built for the Nation,” today was more than a celebration—it was a reminder of why we began. It brought us back to one young Filipino’s dream to build a school for his fellow countrymen, and how that dream continues to live on through every generation of Nationalians.
Today, we honor where we came from—and with full hearts, we move forward, carrying the legacy with us. This isn’t just our past. It’s our story. And it continues with each of us.
